What do I do? My 2 year old daughter pulled out her hair when she was pulling at her hair bow and then she took some velcro from her 'Boppy' and stuck it in her hair then pulled her hair out with it. She has three empty patches of hairless space over her head. It has very little hair there since last year when it happened. The rest of her hair is in great need of a trim-cut----due to damaged dead ends, I was told. What is a good idea to have her hair grow back-in--- even all over? Will it grow back even all over if she just gets a basic trim-cut or will we have to get her hair cut super short to where the lowest hair level is, in order to have it all grow back in healthy and even? I really need help with this. I want her beautiful, even, and cute look back. What is the best thing to do? Do you also know of a good cream rinse for black children that I can buy? I've never heard of a cream rinse for children and haven't been able to find any in the stores locally.

I'd take her into a salon and have them cut her hair, keeping it the longest they can, while disguising the pulled spots...layering might work.

If your not afraid of wearing something different and bold then I would go with the same haircut she has. I have full hair length as well..... my hair falls out and is allllll over the place- no matter what I do or where I go- (my fiance would pull out my hair out of his socks!!) this is totally normal and especially that we have long hair- we shed it more. Vitamin E can help but it won't stop it from falling out. I wouldn't cut your hair- it happens to all of us.

Since you explained it more- i would get a full blood work up done to check for anything and everything just to be on the safe side. i wouldn't panic but i would definetly just get it checked out. Are you having any other symptoms?

You might have something wrong, and should go get a diagnostic blood test. Do you have anything else wrong? Tired, crabby, heat or cold intolerant? You may have a thyroid problem.

Firstly, I'm sorry that you are having this problem. A doctor would be the best to advise you about any potential treatments. As hair loss can be a symptom of medical problems like thyroid problems, a medical assessment should be sought, so that if a treatable medical condition is causing it, that condition can be treated.

As for cutting your hair, I don't think it does anything for the hair loss, but if your hair is looking thin, it will look less noticeable when your hair is cut short than if you keep the remaining hair long. (I had a hair loss when I was about 16, and it looked better when I cut it.)

If you need a trim, you can let the hairstylist trim it for you so your hair won't shed as much though. I used to work at a hair shop and I would see many women come to the shop with the same problems you have described. Vitamin E is great, but you need to develop a healthy routine for your hair so it won't shed so much. I have a few questions for you: How often do you wash your hair? Do you oil your scalp? Do you get trims? How often do you apply heat? Do you use too many harsh chemicals on your hair(color,perms,etc.) What kind of comb do you use to style your hair? What do you do to your hair at night before going to bed? All of these questions play a big role in the health of your hair. Before I learned about having healthy hair, I used to practice very bad habits with my hair. My hairdresser helped me learn to maintain my hair and it is very healthy now. Now, I am going to answer these questions for you. As an African American woman, I would not advise you to wash your hair everyday. Unlike women in other cultures, we need to add nutrients to our hair to keep it healthy. You should wash it once a week though. This will get all the dirt and buildup out of your hair to keep it healthy. Make sure you get a good conditioner to keep your hair soft and shiny throughout the week. This holds in moisture and protects your hair as well This is when I oil my scalp with something light. This is one way I put the nutrients back in my hair. My hair tends to get dry and oil helps eliminate that problem. Make sure that when you comb your hair, you use a wide tooth comb. You don't want to break your hair off by using the little combs either. If you want to comb down to the scalp, use a regular sized comb, but comb through your hair gently. This also helps prevent breakage. If you decide to get color in your hair, wait at least two weeks after you have gotten a perm. When you get perms, that is a good time to get trims. Let your stylist trim it every six weeks. Tell her to ONLY trim the split ends...nothing more! When it comes to your hair, you have to be assertive with the hair dresser. A lot of them tend to get scissor happy and they will cut, cut, cut. Cutting hair does not solve all hair problems. Whatever routine you use, make sure you stick with it. Although it takes time and patience, it is well worth it. Just like diets, there is no magic pill for hair. You have to practice healthy habits in order to see positive results. Good luck.

i'm getting it cut tomorrow, i want the hairstyle where its short in the back and long in the front. its kind of scene. i know those kids have names for all of their hairstyles (coontail, peacock, etc.), so i was wondering if anyone knew it for this particular style. i'm getting it tomorrow, so help, quick! I also NEED pictures. There's nothing hard about what you want but you have to get a very patient stylist with extra time who is willing to work with you. I always found it helpful if clients had a close up pic of themselves that they could take a sharpie pen and at least sketch some semblance of what they wanted. IMO it is just a modified bob. Keep the back short and the "shelf" high and angle the sides in longer. A good stylist will know what you mean. Good luck!

I dont think a lose pony would hurt your hair. I know pulling out your pony too hard can break off your hair and hurt it, so you should always be gentle when you do that. No, a pony tale doesn't do the damage. But if you hold the pony tale up with rubber bands, the bands will cause breakage. There are pony tale holders you can buy in the grocery store or drug store for around $5 that won't hurt your hair. I have worn a pony tale for many years, as part of my style, and I have no damage from that, even though I have very thin, fine hair.

To prevent future damage to your hair, use a product you will find only in salons called Nexus. It's the best product for your hair.

I'm Black and had hair that was past my shoulders. I got it cut short and loved it, then got it relaxed 2 weeks later and the woman trimmed it into a different style and I've hated it ever since. Going to a short style is enough, then to have someone trim it into a totally different style I hated was hard.

I was stuck with hair I hated and there was nothing I could really do with it except let it grow. I bleached the front part of my hair and it eventually broke off. It is uneven in the front with varying lengths of an inch to about 3 inches and a totally different texture than the back of my hair because of the damage.

I've been gluing in a bang since it fell out and need advice on wether to get full extentions put in or what. Right now I'm also wearing a half wig but the front is not blending with the back because the front of my hair so damaged. I'm not comfortable with my short hair. And wigs don't look right on me. I also don't have a lot of money to spend on a salon.

Don't ever glue in hair again, that is the worst form of extensions that you can use- it more than likely is making your breakage worse. I like half wigs an it the texture is not matching, it because you need to buy a new one- one that matches your type and color. I would definately take a picture! The barbers are trained to identify the best way to make your hair look the way you want it to, either by verbal description or by pictures. In fact there is less room for error when using pictures, as when communicating verbally there can be a lot of words that we use as (such as razor cut, shaved, buzzed, layered...heck even short) that can be misunderstood. For example, short can be a matter of opinion and one person's idea of short can be inches off compared to another person's.

I see no problem in taking in pictures, most places usually have hair style/cut books on hand to help customers convey exactly the cut and style they want. This is that common. By taking in your own pictures, this would save time and you can be guaranteed to find the specific pictures of the exact style you want. I would recommend good clear pictures and possibly some pictures showing as much of the style as possible, including the top, front and side...if you can manage to find a separate picture of the back as well that would be perfect. I do this to my hair stylist all of the time. In fact if I find pictures of styles similar to my desired style, but they have something about them I don't want...I take those pictures along too, so I can be specific about the things I don't want as well!

Yes, the barbers use shavers and razors and hair cutting shears/scissors...all of that! They don't just shave heads like in the military! They have to cut, and fade hair all of the time along with using other tools.

Don't forget, if you like the results of the cut...ask the barber what to ask for specifically next time, so that it can be done easily in the future. Knowing what to call what you want done is really helpful...then you won't need to carry a picture(s) and any barber you visit (or hair stylist at a salon) can do it for you!

I am a stylist, and pictures are always helpful. When you consult with your barber, ask him/her if this style is attainable on your hair first. Texture, color, length, all play in to this. Many girls bring pics of jessica simpson, and it's just not going to happen... hehe!! If you go to a good barber, they should do scissor cuts. Many barbers are in and out type buzz cut factories. Think about going to a hair salon that specializes in men and women, where stylists are used to creative scissor cutting, not just one quick cut all day long.......

I style many men, and very rare do I use a buzzer. These men go to the barber. The men that come to me, enjoy a personalized cut where I consult, take time, and they walk out with a cut that nobody else has. Not like a 1, 1 1/2, 2, and 3 1/2 clip fade like the rest of mankind. Sort hair is really hot on a guy. I just do not like long hair unless a man takes really good care of it and pulls it all back. Short hair is fine. Styling wax. Bedhead makes a great product that you can get at Target. It's blue and it's called "manipulator". Rub a little on your fingertips and use it to separate your hair ends. Works fabulous on short or long hair!

When I want the seperated look, I go for Head Games. It should be an orange ball that most hair stylists carry. Or you can always ask your stylist for suggestions, Bed Head products are GREAT.

i think it would work if you had some layers and texturizing. if you have very think hair and you cut it above your shoulders with no layers, you could look a triangle-head (like that lady in the dilbert cartoon strip), so make sure you get a cut that gives you some depth and some volume.

Hmm a few short layers may work nicely. Use texture shears on it. Depends on how short you were planning. If its not thick at the crown a crop may look ok.

I have thick, coarse, curly hair. But i am shure that what I would do might help you with your decision. When i got my hair cut it was a little longer than your was. The lady that cut my hair said the cut and style was for longer hair, when she finally got it done it was about 5 inches from the cut that i wanted it to be! So i suggest that if you want it cut short,

1. find the style that you want

2. Ask your hair stylist to fix or change the cut how you would like it.

3. If it is still to long when done, ask the stylist to cut more.

(when the stylist asks "is that good?" don't be afraid to say no)

I'm 23 yrs old and I come from a Bi-racial background that consists of black and white. I'm very light-skinned but I'm mixed. My biological father is Bi-racial and so is my grandfather. I have short hair but my hair is soft. When I was younger, I had alot of long curly hair especially on the top of my head. I had that long hair for a long time and got it cut off when I started high school. Now I wanna know, how do i grow my long soft hair again on the top of my head? My head also looks like its missing some hair but not in a very bad and serious way or anything. But I think it has something to do with the hair cuts I've had. When I apply grease or oil to my hair, I might use coconut oil grease or this product called "Afrika's finest". its very light brown looking and doesn't contain any oil or protrolieum (I dont know if I spelled that right). But anyway, Is there any products that would be good for me to grow my hair back the way I want? Cause I want my hair to be long again at thetop of my head. And another thing, when I try and apply grease to my hair, I always take a rag and wet it with hot water and then rub it thru my hair and then add the grease.Is it a bad idea to use hot water on your head? Hey u and i r jst the same except for my mom is mixed w/ white and black and my dad's black so i was lucky to get some nice hair. But sadly two years ago all of my hair from the middle of my head down broke off for unknown reasons. So ive been growing my hair back since then and by doing that i have been wearing individual braided extensions in my hair and it grew an incredible 6 inches in jst 5 months!! but i kno u probably dnt want to wear a weave so my best answer for u is to keep greasing ur hair down at night like ur already doing and the grease im using is called Pine Tar (it kinda smells like beef jerky but its odorless when its in ur hair) and Shea Butter. Those two greases worked wonders for my hair and i would never change them up for the world. And as for the hot water, im not sure how that helps but i dnt think ne thing is wrong with hot water being in ur head considering u wash ur hair with it. but keep in mind that too much heat on ur hair can cuase damage so jst be careful. And as for the hair coming off in ur towel, thats perfectly normal. The average person loses up to 50 hairs per day so dnt worry about that. I hope all this info helped. Good luck =)

I too have thick hair and it'll look good or bad depending on how you style it. When you get short hair, make sure it is layered, because one layer looks disgusting. Maybe have some side swept bangs. If you desire, go with the messy look. I think that looks awesome. Just ruffle up the short hair a bit and it'll look fine.

well this might just be your answer. I have very thick hair and recently cut it short. It became hard to maintain because of poofiness. I tried the anti-poof shampoos and none worked. I recommend not cutting it short but going with more like just below shoulders. Definately do not recommend thinning out your hair. Because when you thin it out all the individual hairs become different lengths and it becomes hard to straighten your hair with a hot iron because you have shorter hair under the top layer. Just last week I got my hair cut really short - and noticed a bit of a patch on the back of my head that's a bit thin. Does anyone know of any products that work? I know that our hair serum with keratinocyte growth factor does work, but the problem is whether it will work for you when I have no idea what have caused your problem.

The first and cheapest solution is to avoid shampoos with sodium dodecyl sulfate, an ingredient that manufacturers love because it makes lots of bubbles. Sodium dodecyl sulfate is also the detergent we use in the biochemistry laboratory to dissolve the cell mebranes, and you must believe me, dissolving cell membranes is a bad idea when you are not working in the lab!

Go for Johnson's baby shampoo or any other mild shampoo.

If things don't get better, try first our sea kelp bioferment as leave-on hair conditioner. Next step will be the hair serum with KGF. There is nothing better in the market. KGF is the key growth factor in hair development, and I added many other actives to that serum. If that does not work, be patient and hope that whatever is happening to your hair will pass (most problems pass).

PRopecia is thr brand name and it truly works, I have had many dozens of clients use it and when used in conjunction with rogaine, then you will have even better results. Though it's really pricey you can get hair extentions, or you can go to a nice salon and have a hair stylist fix it; and don't try fixing it, I reccomend that you go to a salon because you'll just make it worse. AND DON'T EVER CUT YOUR HAIR BY YOURSLEF.

OMG EXACT same thing happened to me last week! I went from below shoulders to jaw level (not intentional!) and my confidence was at rock bottom, so I booked in for a full head of hair extensions. This didnt work for me as my natural hair was so short, and now im thinking that even though the short hair was horrible, it was better than what I have now!!! You can either live with it (like I wish Id have done!) or get extensions, but nothing will make it grow any quicker! Hope this helps!

Short hair can be really cute if you rock your style with confidence. After you get used to the style you can get creative with it. You are so accustomed to having your long hair that you think you look different in a bad way. The only thing that may be diminishing you looks is your confidence.

I got mine cut from shoulder length and had a few dodgy haircuts because 1. my hair kept going in to a center parting 2. wasn't sure what style I wanted.

Think about getting it cut to about a half inch all round (Like my avatar here - dunno if it is this length, I got a four all over and now after about six weeks it's a good length), or a caesar cut. It looks good on most people regardless and then just let it grow back. An inch or two makes a big difference when your hair is short, so get a decent cut and then you can let it go dishevelled as it grows back.

Also facial hair can really change the shape of your face. Ask a girl, or find out what suits your face and hair type rather than thinking "I'm a hippy or a goth or whatever..." Facial hair that doesn't suit with long hair can with short hair.

A short, half inch all over haircut can suit any style, think about it, from rave to metal to hiphop.

Enjoy not taking handfulls of hair out of the sink and enjoy how health it is, literally squeaky clean,

Product. Buy tons of styling product. You can't change the fact that your hair is short, but you can easily play with it until you at least have a little fun. Experiment with gels, creams and sprays! You can go for a fun shaggy look, twist it, curl it, etc. Start messing with it until it looks cute to you.

I had the same thing happen only WORSE. I went to get my butt-length hair trimmed and the stupid girl whacked of 10 inches! It was to my shoulders! I cried and cried. I wanted to sue the salon. I could have donated the ten inches to Lock for Love, for crying out loud. Instead, the stupid, stupid, stupid girl trimmed and trimmed until 10 inches were gone. She kept messing up. Rather than ask for help or tell me, she just kept going. I was really tired that day and falling asleep in the chair... but I even asked her if she was cutting off too much. OMG. She SO got fired!

I just cut 8 inches off my hair last weekend and went through the same feelings I just didn't feel as sexy. I just started fixing it different ways each night and seen the reactions I got the next day from my family and co-workers and found what worked for me. Really don't let it bother you. I used to have very long hair and donated it to make wigs for kids with cancer. As it had been long all my life, I was not prepared to how much I identified myself with my hair length.

I didn't have regrets for my reasons, but I did NOT like the cut. Go to another hairstylist and see if they can change it for you. It took me a couple of weeks to adjust, but I am delighted with having short hair now. It's easier to maintain, I enjoy trying different hair products that I could not dream of using before and I like seeing people who have known me for a long time try to figure out who I am. The latter made me realize that others also related me to my hair length. I didn't know that others saw my hair and didn't notice me as a whole person. I now realize that my hair did not make the woman, it just acted more like a security blanket that kept me hidden from others.

You make the woman, not your hair.

I know it may feel unattractive now, but it could be because you are not used to it as well. Your hair didn't grow long overnight so it is normal that the new change may take some time to get used to as well.

Your hair will grow back. I would take this time to enjoy not having to worry about the maintenance and see what else you have to offer, If you look deep, you'll find your confidence again. I did.

Short hair that is cut well, looks very chic and you may try spoiling yourself with a few new clothes that accentuate the whole look. Also go get a make-up update. hair can go through rest phases. mine will stop for awhile then start growing again. if you hair if it is dry may be breaking off i sugges lots of oiling and vitamins.Its a pain i know do all thsi stuff but so worth it in the end trust me. I take multivitamin, biotin 5,000 IU, Vitamin E 400IU and super vitamin b-complex (yes that's what the vitamin is called) all of these can be found at walmart,CVS,etc.It will take at least 1 month to kick into your system. these are the basic components to healthy hair. if your hair isn't healthy it wont grow. Next try massaging the scalp with avocado, sweet almond oil, or jojoba oil with a few drops (3 drops at the most) of essential rosemary oil (once a week). all these can be found at a health good store or you can just mix the oil into your conditioner. you can also visit www.longhaircommunity.com they have allot of great info there

I think with your face, your hair would look cute angled and choppy around your face to accentuate it. And perhaps angled bangs. And that way you can blow out your hair to make it look professional, or use styling gel and make it flip out!

I've heard that massaging your scalp with your fingertips will stimulate hair growth. I'm not talking about drastic growth, but it will ease it along (or so I've heard)

OK... how do i explain this. Well.. i recently got my hair cut and i got it layered. I got layers that went up about an inch or two. I wouldn't go over a couple of inches because it will look weird. Then i got a few long bangs (long enough to go behind my ear, yet short enough to be bangs) that blended in with the rest of my hair. With the hair cut that i got it made the layers look poofy. it really looks cute! i would suggest that you try this! hope that is helps! O yeah... for the layers, each layer had different lengths. i hope that it makes sense! o yeah my hair is medium/ long (just below my shoulder)

I used an at home relaxer kit and to make a long story short (pardon the pun) my hair has broken off so bad that it is only inches long in the back but thankfully the part of my hair that ramained long covers the short hair up. Now I look like I have a bob hair cut!!! Is there any treatment I can use on my hair to repair it and to begin minimizing the horrible damage done to my hair? Needless to say I feel real dumb that I used an at home kit!!

Well using a home kit wasn't the smartest thing to do, but you need to go to a stylist to finish what you already done to your hair but layering or finish styling it. If not you will have a lot of split ends and your hair WILL NOT grow properly. Then you need to condition you hair every two weeks (sit under the dryer for about 10 or 15min.) If your not in the habit of greasing your scalp you should (depending on the texture of your hair), I use Doo-Grow and its works really well. Also using a curling iron isn't the best thing for your hair. Roller wraps are the best thing since Slice Bread and your hair will grow VERY FAST!

Believe me I know. I had to cut my hair almost two years ago b/c of split ends and by doing the things I just mention above my hair is in the middle of my back. All i do is get roller wraps (styles in between) and grease my scalp. Braids may not be the best idea right now since your hair is already weak. Let it rest for a while.

You should not feel dumb that you used an at home kit. Obviously, you did not know what you were doing. Now, for people who do not know what they are doing, then, that was very dumb. I use an at home perm ALLLLLLL of the time and my hair is long and healthy (dont mean to brag). GO to a professional and start treatment, most likely, you will have to get it cut. You probably left it on too long or you bought a bad kind. I think you left it on too long cause most people start in the back and since the problem is in the back, well........

Ooh girl! well, this same thing happened to me in the fall of last year...I would recommend braiding it up for two months and letting some of the hair grow back....cornrows would probably be best since box braids tend to make the hair more prone to breakage if you have just finished relaxing your hair...use some braid spray, and oil on the weekends...wrap it up and in no time, you should have some hair in that damaged area...good luck

p.s. never use a home kit again! :) believe me, you're saving more money and time by going to the salon

You may be stayed longer that it says you should. What you can do now is get a nice hair cut and treat your hair once a week;Steam and use it's own repairing product. Your hair is very weak now, might even break every time your comb it. So the only way to stop it is to trim it regularly as it grows and the new hair will come out nice and healthy again.

There is nothing wrong with a home kit if you know what you are doing. You probably got one that was to strong or left it in to long. You are going to have to get it trimmed up. The part that is damaged. Get your self some hot oil treatments at least once a week and deep conditioner once a week as well. You are going to have to keep that area as moist as possible since you will probably get some form of a scab or something in that area. I would recommend a Spanish oil called in English coco's of oil. You will need to get it from a Spanish type of a market. It is pure coconut oil with real chunks of coconuts in it. It will make your hair grow back FAST and it will heal the damaged part at the same time. Good luck

You should cut your hair so all of it can grow evenly. Braids also help with your hair growing. But you should always get your hair relaxed by a professional at a salon or someone you know that does hair.But if you need to do it at home follow the directions very carefully or the same thing can happen again. Also get a hot oil treatment about once a month and deep condition your hair after you get it relaxed. Trim your hair every 6-8 weeks also to get rid of the split ends that can make your hair break off.

You would look really good if you had some graduating layers cut in. Try having the front sections starting just below your chin and then have the layers graduate down to past your shoulders. You have gorgeous straight hair so it'll work really well on you. Also try some highlighting powder. You can get it in all different colours and if you put some along your cheekbones it really brightens your complexion and gives you amazing cheekbones.

I think you're pretty. I would say keep your long hair but just add blonde highlights and do layers, long layers are beautiful. Or have you seen how they will dye the top of the hair lighter like maybe blonde and the bottom is dark maybe how it is now. That's how my hair is now and i love it! BLONDE'S DO HAVE MORE FUN! haha.
