Hair wrapped around vacuum roller. Any advice to prevent it?

Okay, I have long hair--lots of it. Every couple months or so I have to flip my little vacuum over and cut the hair off the rotating brush. It's usually so bad that I can barely see the bristles and I end up with quite a pile of hair in the trash.

So, short of shaving my head or cutting my hair short, what would be the most effective way of reducing the amount of hair that gets wrapped around the brush; kind of like a "pre-sweep"? I have both carpeting and vinyl. Usually I'll run around the bathroom with the dust buster and suck up loose hairs, but what can I do on the carpeting?

Try the Swiffer Carpet Flick every couple of days. Otherwise you can just keep cutting the hair off the roller (just do it more often).

i have the same problem with a house full of long hairs - my hubby and me and all little critters too. theres really no preventative maintenance you can do unfortunately unless you want to brush your hair outside all the time. Just regular maintenance of the vacuum. Disassemble the bottom and pull it out to get all the hair removed. You might be suprised where all it gets caught and how much it impacts the performance of your vacuum. i know what youre going thru - i had to "maintain" my vacuum on saturday :P

I feel your pain I've been doing this for years. Get a stiff brush from the hardware store and sweep the carpet in wide arcs with the brush this gets 90 percent of the hair and you won't be cutting hair out of the vacuum.

Nothing: I have the same problem; just keep doing what you are doing; only do it more often; cut those hairs oout of the vac at least once a week. or the vac will stop picking them up.

Not much you can do unless you give up your long hair.

This is a consistant problem we have at a rental house

with college girls as tenants. They "break" the vacuum a lot, and it is always the hair on the roller. Just make it part of your weekly or biweekly routine to trim the hair out of the roller brush. Long hair wreaks havoc on power wheelchairs, too. it get all wrapped up in places that can cause the wheelchair to malfunction. Just be glad you only have to deal with a vacuum cleaner; it could be worse.
